Lots of time, I see a lot of 'multi-tiered' cakes in receptions but hardly know the rationale behind the making of the master piece. Yea, I'm curious on things like this. So last year I got a chance to learn from a lady who made a wedding cake for her own son's wedding reception. Remember "The Cake Lady" - Lee Sin, from Penang?
Creation of this cake is inspired by Ron Ben Israel, a wedding cake guru from the US. Apart from this, it's also a combination of matching the wedding theme of oriental motif, purple and pink color, Lee Sin's love on lace, her son's preference on blings and the daughter-in-law's love on Hydrangeas & Peonies. So much love and meaning into this!
The construction of cake is made to 9 tiers which symbolizes eternity for Chinese. The blings you see are genuine Swarovski crystals imported from Austria, 800 of them in total on the whole cake. One of the most time consuming part for the cake would be the lace as they are DIY by Lee Sin cause she wanted them to be unique. If you read our Cake Lady entry, you'd just knew how much effort and attention she puts on the details apart from it's aesthetics.
It took Lee Sin nearly 2 months from start to finish to complete this cake - making the Peonies, Hydrangeas, filler flowers, making molds and ordering crystals etc. The rainy season when she did the cake was not helpful at all. The petals could not harden and this translates to her needing more time before able to assemble the flowers together.
Apart working on the cake for the reception, Lee Sin needed to work on a lot of stuff like doing the bridal gift, cleaning the house, sending invitation cards, and making of some cupcakes tower as a surprise to her daughter-in-law cause she loves cup cakes a lot. I'm impressed for Lee Sin's effort and love as a mother.
&.b.t.w. - Look at what Lee Sin up to lately attending her first cake decorating class! I believe I'll see more of this kind of cake as the next trend for parties!!
&.&.b.t.w. - I'm always amazed by Lee Sin's new work posted in her Page!
